Red Mountain Park is an urban green space that offers 15 miles of trails for hiking and biking. If you’d rather stroll through blooms, check out Birmingham Botanical Gardens, known as Alabama’s Largest Living Museum. Open 365 days a year, it’s a great visit whether traveling as a family or as a couple. You can also take a quiet stroll or bike ride in Railroad Park, one of Birmingham’s many city parks. Sports fans can see a Birmingham Barons baseball game at the new stadium. While you’re there, take a photo in front of the huge “Birmingham” sign!

 

Get Historic

Spend time to honor and learn about Birmingham’s Black history and Civil Rights history. Key sites to visit include the Civil Rights Institute; Kelly Ingram Park, where monuments honor Civil Rights marches; and the 16th Street Baptist Church, where four young black girls were killed in a 1963 bombing during the Civil Rights Movement.

 

Food & Drink

An absolute must while in Birmingham is to try some of its famous barbecue. Locals recommend Saw’s, Jim-N-Nicks, and Dreamland. Try some classic soul food of the South, often available at meat and three restaurants that offer a meat and three sides. Locals recommend Niki’s West and Johnny’s.
